Materials:

  • All instructions are applicable for any worsted weight yarn. You will need much less than 1 skein of yarn in green, yellow, and black.
  • Suggested hook size (see Gauge, below): E US/3.50 mm
  • For this pattern, the following yarn was used:
I Love This Yarn! Super Saver Yarn –Red Heart
– #330 Yellow
– 7 ounces
– 355 Yards
– Yarn Bee
– #0312 Black / #0672 Spring Green
– 7 ounces – 363 Yards
– Coats & Clark

Size:

The finished size of your amigurumi goes hand in hand with the yarn and hook you choose. However, using an E US/3.50 mm hook, the finished doll will be roughly 6 inches tall, the diameter is 12 inches, and the circumference is roughly 38 inches.

Gauge:

The gauge is 6 stitches and 5 Rounds = 1 inch. The pieces should be crocheted tightly enough that there will not any visible gaps when stuffed. If the stitches stretch open too much and the fiberfill is clearly visible, reduce the hook size. If you cannot insert the hook into the previous stitches, reduce your tensions (crochet more loosely) or increase the hook size.

Other Materials Needed:

  • Poly Fil Fiber Stuffing
  • Yarn Needle to weave in ends
  • Scissors
  • Stitch Marker (optional)

Notes:

  • Use sewing pins to hold the body parts together to gauge where each part should be attached and make sure each piece is evenly spaced.
  • Place a marker at the end of each Round to keep track of your stitches. Holes in your work can be avoided by using old bits of yarn instead of plastic markers.
  • Do not join at the end of each round; rounds are worked in continuous spirals.

Special Stitches:

BS (bobble stitch): YO hk, insert hk into st, pull through 2 loops, *YO hk, insert hk into same st, pull through 2 loops* repeat from * to * 3 more times, pull through all loops and proceed to next st.

Body Assembly

STEP 1 – Attach both body pieces together by using a single crochet in the leftover green yarn from the top of the octopus. (Make sure the wrong sides are facing away from each other before attaching).

Stuff the inside of the octopus as you make the single crochets and once more before closing the octopus.

STEP 2 – Next attach the eyes to the top of the octopus.
